Betting Yourself into a Corner

If you like to try out different systems and strategies then you have likely tried out several money management strategies designed to help you have a better edge over the house. Using one in particular, the Martingale System, also known as the negative progression system is one money management system that has been around longer than just about any other system.

In online bingo gambling, the old Martingale System will give you absolutely no edge over the house (the casino) because of the lower table limits and a hoist of other reasons. The Martingales System is usually applied only in even money bets. It is about as simple as it gets but even with all of its simplicity, if you aren’t careful, you can bet yourself straight into a corner with not much chance of bouncing back.

With this negative progression system, you start with one chip, if you lose then you add one chip and each time you lose, you match your bet for the next wager. If you win, then you start again with the same lone chip. According to the Martingale System, you will eventually win. However, with table maximum limits, that is not always the case.

Online UK casinos impose a lower maximum table limit in most cases because of systems such as the Martingale system , yet these casinos would actually benefit more than lose if they kept the table limits higher because many people bet the martingale and obviously they then lose when they reach the table maximum using the negative progression. At this point, it is then hard for the free bingo player to recoup any significant losses.

Another system, the Ormond System is a negative progression which holds variations from the original Martingale System. This system does hold the belief that you will reach a win before you reach the house limits. However, you have to have a large bankroll to fund it and because it isn’t practical at all, we won’t discuss it. Overall, any negative progression variation of the original Martingale system has failed miserably at trying to replace the original version.

If you must bet the negative progression, then choose to go with the original Martingale system but do realize the danger in a progression such as this does lie in running up against the house limits and does require a large bankroll in order to realize the maximum benefits. Another thing to keep in mind is that this system was implemented before the days of the shuffle master and presumed that the player will eventually win. While in roulette and baccarat games that is probably a correct assumption. However, in blackjack, it really depends on what you feel defines eventually.

While there are many money management systems out there, the only one that really works is true money management skills. You simply have to manage your bankroll. Setting realistic win targets and protective loss limits will help you stay on top of your finances in a casino. If you refuse to manage your bankroll, then eventually it will manage you!
